Abstract

This collection contains over 1,800 items including mugs, pipes, canes, banners, hatbands, pins, jewelry, and other material collected by many individuals that document reunions, sporting events, student traditions, and other aspects of University life.

Scope and Contents

The Memorabilia Collection has been rehoused, and the finding aid is in the process of being updated during August and September, 2021. As of August 6, box numbers in Series 6, 7, and 12 are not correct, and not all existing items have been incorporated into the finding aid yet.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged by broad category as follows: 250th Anniversary; Awards; Banners, Pennants, and Flags; Clothing; Dishware; Embossers; Grounds and Buildings; Medals; Pins and Ribbons; Athletic Equipment and Ephemera; Stamps, Paper and Desk Accessories; Smoking Accessories; Canes, Umbrellas, and Batons; Photographs, Paintings and Sculpture; Miniature Tigers; Metal Tags, License Plates and Key Chains; Fans and Personal Accessories.

Collection History

Acquisition:

The collection was donated by hundreds of individuals over the course of several decades. Some individual items are marked with accession numbers which provide donor information.

Appraisal

A Silver Greek style Cup, 1906, was deaccessioned and returned to the Quadrangle Club on February 24, 2024. The cup had been in Box 217 (OS Depth, Height- extra).

Processing Information

This collection was processed by Christina Aragon in 1998, Matt Brady in 1997, Joseph Faber in 1997, Sue-Jean Kim in 1996, Bogachin Sahin in 1998 from 1996-1998. Finding aid written by Christina Aragon in 1996-1998, Matt Brady in 1997, Joseph Faber in 1997, Sue-Jean Kim in 1996, Bogachin Sahin in 1998. Additions to the collection were made by Christie Peterson with assistance from Doug Newton '12 in July and August 2011. Much of the collection was rehoused between 2019 and 2021. Box 217 (OS height, depth-extra) was removed for deaccessioning in February 2024.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process. Requests should be directed through the Ask Us Form.
