Abstract

Heath Bowman was a member of the Princeton University Class of 1931. After graduating, Bowman traveled extensively and later became a public affairs officer involved in Chile, Italy, France, and Yugoslavia. The papers consist of Bowman's 68 diaries from 1923 to 1989 and some of his photographs from the West Indies and South America.

Scope and Contents

Consists of 68 diaries kept by Bowman, spanning the years 1923-1989 (with the exception of 1931 and 1952). Also present are photographs taken by Bowman in the West Indies and various South American countries including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Peru.

Arrangement

The diaries are arranged chronologically and the photographs alphabetically by country.

Collection Creator Biography:

Bowman, Heath, 1910-

During the 1930s, Bowman (Princeton Class of 1931) traveled in South America and Mexico, publishing four books on those travels, and a novel. After a stint in the Navy during World War II (stationed in Washington, D.C.), he became a public affairs officer with assignments in Chile, Italy, France, and Yugoslavia.

Bequest of the author via Mercedes Bowman. Card from Bowman to John G. Kidd was a gift of Sheila Miles.
