Abstract

Consists of two notebooks or scrapbooks dating from 1886 to 1891 kept by noted English angler, J. Arthur Hutton that include a series of essays read before the Manchester Anglers' Association and monthly entries of descriptions of fishing flies.

This collection includes two handwritten, bound notebooks or scrapbooks kept by noted English angler, J. Arthur Hutton. The first, dating from 1886 to 1891, primarily consists of a series of essays read before the Manchester Anglers' Association, one of the oldest game fishing clubs in England founded in 1878; the second, dating from January to July 1886, primarily consists of monthly entries of descriptions of fishing flies; some include actual flies tipped in.

English angler James Arthur Hutton (1862-1955) was a very prominent Manchester fisherman, best remembered for his numerous fishing books published from 1916 to 1933, including Rod Fishing for Salmon on the Wye (1920) and The Life History of the Salmon (1924).
