Scope and Contents

This collection contains assorted poetry and prose manuscripts, notebooks, diary-like letters to Héctor Falcón, letters sent to and received from various correspondents, and photographs (including photos of Reina María Rodríguez). Additional materials include notebooks with texts and notes, writings, correspondence, photographs, clippings and other printed materials.

Rodríguez, Reina María

The poet Reina María Rodríguez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1952. She studied literature and graduated from the Universidad de La Habana. For fifteen years, Rodríguez directed and wrote radio and television programs. Rodríguez is the author of several poetry collections: La gente de mi barrio (1976), Cuando una mujer no duerme (La Habana, Cuba: Uníon de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba, 1980), Para un cordero blanco (La Habana, Cuba: Casa de las Américas, 1984), En la arena de Padua (La Habana, Cuba: Ediciones Unión, 1992), Para los pájaros (1995), Páramos (La Habana, Cuba: Ediciones Unión, 1995), La foto del invernadero (La Habana, Cuba: Casa de las Américas, 1998), Te daré de comer como a los pájaros (La Habana, Cuba: Letras Cubanas, 2000), Una muchacha loca como los pájaros (México: Ediciones Coyoacán, 2003), Catch and Release (La Habana, Cuba : Editorial Letras Cubanas, 2006) and Bosque negro (Cáceres : Institución Cultural El Brocense, 2008). She is currently the co-director of the literary magazine Azoteas. Throughout her career as a poet Rodríguez has been awarded a variety of literary prizes, including Concurso "13 de Marzo" (1976), Premio de Poesía Julián de Casal (1980 and 1993), Premio Casa de las Américas (1984 and 1998), Premio de la Crítica (Cuba) (1992, 1995, and 1999), Premio de la Revista Plural (Mexico) (1992), and Order of Arts and Letters of France (1999).
